The Akita is a solid, powerful, well-proportioned, beautiful and distinctive looking dog. They have very dominant characteristics, but with proper training and handling, they can become good companion and guard dogs. They are known to be very territorial, and caution should be taken around other dogs and pets. Socialization at a young age is mandatory with this breed. We had an Akita. He was a great dog. He was friendly and protective. His fur was the densist! If you can imagine a caribou hide on a dog, that would be his fur texture!. In Japan, people often have their deceased dog's hide tanned and keep it hanging on the wall!

Akita's are my favourite types of dog, though i have never actually owned one a friend of mine did and it was so playful and gentle. I would love to own an Akita
