    Suggestion: Pet Adoption Subforum

Since the issue of adoption has already popped up in at least one thread, and I'm sure it will pop up again - how about an Adoption subforum? That way, people who are looking for pets or trying to find homes for pets can post threads there. There could be a sticky at the top with a list of resources for people trying to adopt out animals (or find an animal to adopt) such as Petfinder and PetSmart Charities.

    This sounds a good idea.

Will rescue centers be able to post the animals they need find homes for?

I think that is a great idea also. I would make sure it is only from legitimate Animal Rescues and not let backyard breeders post there. Some of them have their puppies in deplorable conditions and they shouldn't be encouraged. I know it is tempting to get these puppies out of there but it only encourages them to breed more. That is just my opinion though.

    Arrow Pet Adoption Forum

We now have a Pet Adoption forum in the Pets section of the board, thanks to Kittydancer for her suggestion.

This forum will a place for our members to post information and photos of pets that they know of, who are in need of new homes. It's a means to get your "free to good home" message out.

Pets of all kinds can be posted for adoption in this forum.

Reputable non-profit rescue organizations may also post information about a particular pet here, along with a related link. However, using links to just promote or advertise their websites is not allowed.

Selling of animals from any breeders or stores will not be permitted anywhere on this forum.

Does this include rescue centers if they were members?

The post below has a good point.

Would a back street breeder be able to sell through Forum? Just a tad concerned

Reputable non-profit rescue organizations will be able to post information here about a particular pet that needs to be adopted, and add a related link. Using links to just promote or advertise their websites is not allowed.

Breeders or stores will not be permitted to sell any animals anywhere on Pet Forums.

    This is great news.
I asked our local rescue center if they ever got involved in forums. I got an abrupt NO for an answer. Seems they think all Pet Forums allow the sale of animals.
I shall be in contact with them and hopefully they will contact you. I am sure they would have allot to offer to the forum.
Why Would they not be allowed to use a link to their own website?
I must admit I don't fully understand spam and rules.

Many of us have animal rescue centers in the areas where we live, like the Dumb Friends League, ASPCA, Animal Shelter, etc. It's easy enough for anyone to visit their local shelter as just one avenue for seeking available pets, the organizations usually have websites to explore also.

We don't want the forum to become an advertising poster board for general website promotion links. This can lead to heavy spamming on our forum, and possible promotion of non-reputable businesses. Some puppy mills can present themselves as "rescues" for their specific breed, etc.

If one of our members has knowledge of a particular dog or cat for example, from a rescue group, they can post information and photos of that pet only, and include the link to the rescue group for further info or contact. A rescue group can join and post an occasional message regarding a particular pet, but they rarely want to devote the time or effort for an individual animal.

Our adoption forum is for the benefit and personal use of our members, such as Cattastic who's trying to rehome those two lovely cats. Our priority is maintaining a spam-free, friendly place for "free to good home" pets who need a loving home.

A Pet Forums' member whose message is lost in a maze of advertisements for businesses, will not happen here. We're keeping it personal.

It's good to know that this forum is all about keeping it personal. Adverts and promos make any website annoying so I am glad you put a stop to that

    Update

Our guidelines for posting in the Pet Adoption forum have been revised to include the permission of postings from reputable non-profit rescue organizations.

Our Pet Adoption forum is for members to post information and photos of pets who need new homes. It's a way to get out your "free to good home" message. Those who are interested in giving a pet a good forever home, are encouraged to post the type of pet they're looking for, and their general location/state.

Reputable non-profit rescue organizations may also advertise here, and post information about rescued pets that are available for adoption.

Selling of any other animals by breeders or stores is NOT permitted anywhere on Pet Forums.

Please do not seek money donations from our members for any causes.
