    Sad news

One of my daughter's bulldogs, Frank, who just turned 5 two weeks ago is very sick. He doesn't want to eat and have to fight with him to get up to go out and even take his meds. He had an apt. with the vet last week because he just wasn't acting himself, in fact that morning I tried to feed him (had to feed him with a spoon) he wouldn't eat on his own, then when I tried to get him up to go out he actually snarled at me and grabbed my shirt and made a hole in the sleeve. Not like him at all, he is the most mellow, laid back dog you've ever seen. Anyway she took him to our regular vet and he sent her to a heart specialist. The dog has high blood pressure and it affected his heart, one side of the heart is enlarged and the other is what he called "squished". he is on numerous meds and has to go back the 22nd if he lives that long. We were warned he could just drop dead at any time. Yesterday he seemed more like his old self, ate by himself and even played a little with his toys and greeted me at the door, today he wouldn't eat, even when I tried feeding him, he did go out for me but came right back in and laid on his bed. I got him to take his meds by hiding them in cheese, and even the cheese he hesitated to take. Its not looking good for Frank, I'm so afraid every morning I'm afraid to find him dead in his bed. He is seeing the best vet in his field but we have to accept the fact that no matter how good the vet is he can't perform a miracle. He is not in any pain but at some point his heart will just stop and he'll be gone.

Linda I’m so sorry to hear that about Frank. I know how you feel…you’re on an emotional roller coaster with one good day then one bad day. Although you know what the diagnosis is it’s still a lousy situation but I truly hope for the best for Frank. It’s not easy but I’m here for you my friend (hugs)

he's not going to get better. How long can he live with only half a heart. One side is enlarged the other is "squished", only a matter of time.

thank you everyone for your concern for our Frank, today was a good day, he ate his breakfast for me (had to hand feed him) but he did eat most of his breakfast and took his pills and he even went outside for a little bit. He did seem more restless today though he'd lay down then get up and walk around a little then lay back down. We know it won't end well but we are taking it one day at a time, every day he is with us is a gift.

he is at the vet now having another echocardiogram to see if the meds have to be increased or decreased. Some days he eats other days no, this morning he didn't want to eat or go out for me. He had an apt. at 10 and isn't back yet so I don't know if thats good or bad, its now almost 1 pm. Soon as I hear anything I'll post

update: He said that the pressure is down by 50% for Frank so he doesn’t have to go back for 3 months. No change to his current meds.

Thanks for the update Linda, sounds like he's stable at least. Hoping he'll be okay for as long as possible.
