Has your dog reacted badly to 'Cytopoint' injection (new anti-itch shot)

my dog had this shot Wednesday By Friday she was extremely thirsty and starting to turn away from her food By Saturday she was vomiting and wouldn't eat. She was lethargic and sick this entire weekend. I was told this shot had virtually NO side effects. Should have looked for owners' blogs before agreeing. Going to vet this afternoon. Hoping that the GI distress is the only side effect I have read about it being able to negatively affect the bone marrow as well! Fortunately she seems to be feeling a little better today.

My dog developed this exact same thing called imha where his immune system attained his red blood cells- he was in the hospital for a week and had 4 blood transfusions. It came on quickly too. He is doing okay but itís been a long ( and expensive) journey. He had the cytopoint injection 3 weeks prior to this happening. I wondered if it was connected? Seems like there are a lot of others that encountered this same thing. Do you know if anyone has reached out to the company that makes cytopoint?

I agree that we need to take action. I have me records of my dogs 2 CYTOPOINT injections. As well as the inconclusive test results to what was causing his sudden anemia which left us with being told he is autoimmine. I also have the thousands of dollars in receipts from blood transfusion, biopsy, and the never ending meds he is on to keep him stable.

He had some itchy scaly spots on his skin. His name was Georgie. Georgie was 13 years old and in very good health with no underlying diseases or illnesses. As far as we knew and as far as we observed Georgie was happy and running around the day we brought him in for skin allergies.

Last year in 2016, I decided to just put Benadryl cream on his skin and eventually the allergies subsided. This year, because the itching was a bit more intense we decided along with the vet to give him the CytoPoint Injection to help him stop itching. Two days after the injection, Georgie began to bleed internally. His antibodies began to attack his red blood cells and Platelets.

Georgie died 7 days after the CytoPoint injection and after 3 blood transfusions. CytoPoint killed my dog. This is a warning to all Pet owners. Cytopoint has not been on the market long, only 8-9 months, with ONE case study. We unfortunately researched everything about the company Zoetis and CytoPoint after the death of my dog.

Please DO NOT have CYTOPOINT administered/injected into your Dog for allergies or itchy skin. CytoPoint is a Biologic with Antibodies that are to program how cells send messages to the brain about itching. Georgie was injected with these Antibodies, where the antibodies turned against his body attacking red blood cells and platelets. My family is in pursuit to go after Zoetis for compensation for the $5,000 of Emergency Blood Transfusions that we incurred. Please head this warning and share with anyone you think may be considering CytoPoint for their Dog.

Hi Puglover, so far we are still fighting to keep him stable. We recently changed the immunosuppressants he is on in hopes of being able to lower the prednisone. He is starting to show the side effects from long term steroid and immunosuppressant use. I am happy he is still here, and is still himself but itís obvious the drugs are taking a toll on his body. We are still hoping there is a chance we can get the dosage low enough that he will not have such side effects and keep his blood counts stable at the same time. It is a very long process with slooooooowlh tapering. It is really sad, i wish every day that i never shredded to the CYTOPOINT injection.
