Applying spot on

    The insecticide should be applied down as much of the line of parted fur as possible, not just at one point. Applying it down the whole line will give it the best chance to be absorbed, and the least chance for it to pool up and be shaken off/around by the cat.

    Yeah that is what I thought it makes more sense. I think I will get a syringe without needle, maybe the bottle is the problem the syringe will be more accurate.
