Thanks for sharing your story about sweet Lilly, my eyes started to tear when you mentioned how Pook stayed with her and curled up....so precious, my sympathy and warm thoughts to all of you. We've always had our pets cremated by the vet. Many years ago when I was young, we had a Malamute who did die at home. My husband and his father wrapped him in a blanket and we were able to get him to the vet for cremation on our own, but I can imagine the difficulty for one person alone to do it, I know I couldn't lift such a large dog.

It sounds like the funeral home people did all the right things and treated Lilly and you very respectfully, I'm very pleased to hear that. Hugs my friend.

    Rest peacefully Henry and Lilly.

I'm glad you were able to share with us what happened and I know it wasn't easy my friend. We've always been able to bury our furry family but then again we've never had a large animal that passed on. I would have never thought of using a local funeral home. I'm so glad they were comforting and gentle to you and your husband at this terrible time.

Thank you all, and bless all of you for your kindness. I hope you all will never be at a loss like I was when my Lilly passed.

Please please pass the word along to your friends.

    Many hugs, Saav

You will be at a loss every time a pet dies, Saav. To not grieve the loss is to not love the pet.

At a loss referred to making arrangements, not to sadness.

I have come to accept her passing in a way, but dang, nights are the worst. She would sleep all snugged up to me. Before sleep, I would give the cats their treats and Lilly her can of wet dog food.

I have been pressured by well-meaning family and friends to get a puppy. I'm just not there yet. I just can't think of one yet.

Am I awful? I know there are puppies who need homes. I just am not with this yet, and I am sorry. I hope y'all understand.

These decisions are very personal and very individual, people are offering suggestions because they know you're hurting and you may feel better with a new dog....but you go by your feelings and follow your heart. I recommend you don't rush into anything, you'll know if and when is the right time for you and your family.

You're not awful at all, just the opposite. Please don't apologize, there is no need to at all. Hugs.
