No, I don't think fewer people would adopt cats. A cat that is trained to use the scratching posts in the home is a good pet. People who would chop off a cats claws at the knuckle to keep it from jumping on the counter shouldn't even have a cat in my opinion. Cats instinctively jump up on things and climb on things, to make that physically painful for them is abusive.
