Adjusting cat with stress related urinary issues to a new home

    Hello all,

I rescued my lovely cat Sam 7 years ago when he was a kitten. I will be moving from a house with 4 other cats, of which he has spent his life with, to a large studio apartment. Unfortunately the four other cats will stay with the rest of my family. Sam has a history of stress induced urinary issues, he doesn't pee on things he just stops peeing which has led to infections in the past. The stress was usually caused when we fostered puppies, and he has not had an issue in the past two years. I am looking for advice and tips on how I can help him adjust to his new home when we move in two months. I plan to wait a week or so until the apartment is fully unpacked so that unpacking will not be a stressor.

    Thanks!

he will no doubt be stressed moving to a new place without his cat buddies. Can you take one of the others also so he won't be lonely, or get him a new kitten friend to keep him amused when you are not home
he is your friend and protector, he will love you unconditionally, you owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion

Welcome and good luck. You're smart for waiting until all the unpacking is done, that's unsettling for both people and pets.
