Most of these turtles are very common and easy to get now. Most of the ones in the vid are just morphs or genetic mutations. The species its self is not rare. There are also much more rare turtles that have not made their way into captivity yet.

Thanks for the info Poison, they seemed to be very expensive and unique according to the video. I only owned two small common green turtles when I was a kid, that's all I know. There are some big box turtles wild where I live, be we don't see them that often.

Lol at the amazon near brazil

Poor hatchlings getting flipped around a lot. He could've explained everything without moving the turtles too much.

Hope the first 2 were available here without the need to ship it

Quick question, is the Pig-nosed turtle really rare. A friend used to have one. They lived peacefully with my Snake-necked one a decade ago.

According to the article dated Sept. 17, 2013, this turtle's population has decreased in half for the past 50 years. It may not be the rarest but is it even legal for pet stores to sell this if that's the case?

Are you sure you had that exact species? Pet stores often sell north american softshell turtles as "pignose" turtles.

I'm not sure. The pet store that sold them 10 years ago said they were imported from Malaysia (or Indonesia). I guess that means they weren't North American. What do you think?

Beautiful turtles. A reminder that something doesn't need to be 'cute and cuddly' to be lovable.

Rather too much handling for my liking in that video. I perceived the turtles were not enjoying it... The information could have been imparted and illustrated perfectly well with zoom rather than manhandling.
