Just want to say hi and ask a question about chihuahuas

Hi! I have a small(3.75 lbs} regular 5 1/2 month old Chihuahua puppy. She has an open fontanel. I will not be breeding her, because of her size. Also she will not be going around any non-neutered dogs. I was wondering if I should get her spayed or not ?

A very warm welcome to the forum!

I can't help you with the dog problem I'm afraid. Though I'm sure someone will come along soon who will be able to advise you.

WELCOME! My advice is always to spay or neuter...it's healthier for them.

If you don't get her spayed there is always the possibility of an unwanted pregnancy. Plus she runs the risk of mammary cancer and pyromethia. But I would wait until she's been in heat twice before doing it.

I would recommend you ask your vet about the appropriate age for "getting fixed" and not wait for going into heat. That's my view. Good luck.

Do some research, dogs spayed and neutered before a year old can have health issues later. If they are spayed or neutered before they are both physically and mentally mature the legs and nose keeps growing stretching the ligament in the knee which can cause the crucua tear in the knees. 75% of dogs that have this injury were done before a year old. Age doesn't seem to affect cats

yes get her spayed. It is best especially in her case and you are not breeding. You don't want any accidents should she get out
