Lots of people, well, most people think that suet feeders are for birds, and that is true. You don't give treats to your dog using a suet feeder...or do you? :friendly_wink: Well, suet feeders are usually hung of these things: Screen Shot 2019-05-18 at 4.37.31 PM.png
(You can buy them here)

So, I have two suet feeders. One for the wild birds, and one for my pet birds: CHICKENS! In the wild suet feeder, I buy suet from Lowes including Woodpecker suet, chickadee suet, and all bird suet. In my chicken suet feeder, I can put chickadee suet. Or I can put treats in it like banana, cabbage or grass. Yes, chickens love to eat grass! And do you know what else they can eat? They can eat..... Yikes! I'm starting to do what I love to do: Talk about chickens. :eek-new: This thread is supposed to be about suet feeders and how to use them and what birds like in them and.... Well, lets keep going. So, here is a picture of a WILD bird on my WILD bird suet feeder and a picture of some of my chickens eating from my CHICKEN suet feeder:

Do you use a suet feeder for anything besides wild birds and chickens? If you do, (or did), please post and tell me all about it! Bye bye for now! Because I need to go re-fresh the water in my chicken waterer! :D

my cats are inside but they do have the window catios they can go out but its all caged in so they can't get to anything. If they could actually get out they would kill anything that moves. so for the safety of everything including them they must be contained

Some woodpeckers have visited my yard, they seem to love the suet feeder. I am using Birds Choice Suet Feeders, there is a cage on each side of the feeder which each holds one suet cake, so it will hold 2 suet cakes altogether. Woodpeckers like to feel secure when feeding, so they can grip the mesh on the cage to hold on and there is a tail prop so the birds can feed comfortably for as long as they want.

There aren’t many bird where I live now, but I used to live in Oregon, and we had an elderberry tree that the big pleated billed woodpeckers would come eat off of. It was so cool. Those things were about the size of a big hawk. The big ones would get almost 20 inches head to tail and have almost a 30 inch wingspan. You could hear them calling to each other out in the forest. A very wild sound. They are such beautiful creatures.
