Hey guys! So, as some of you might know, my betta (Count Rosencross) lives in my 10 gal walstad tank.

The 10 gallon has been having some issues with algae blooms, etc, and the plants kinda went wild in there. It turned into a little bit more of a jungle then I was intending, and I was thinking about re-doing it and just going with root tabs instead of dirt this time (less messy). So, I’m gonna take down the tank and start over. Then this got me thinking, if I’m going to break it down and re-scape it, why not divide it? So, after much thinking, I decided I’m going to divide it.

So here’s the plan. LifeWithPets divider, double sponge filters (one on each side), and new versa top.

For substrate I’m still kind of undecided. I have a big bag of pool filter sand I use in most of my tanks that looks pretty nice, but I’ve also got some finer, brownish, grayish, modeled river sand sitting in my bedroom that I’m contemplating using. The river sand is probably a lot harder to mainting, but it looks super dope, so I can’t decide. Let me know what y’all think!

After I get the tank divided and set up how I want it, I was thinking “who’s gonna go in the other side?”

I thought about another betta for a while, then I struck gold on something. I found a pair a betta imbellis fry for sale. Betta imbellis! I might need to upgrade them to their own 10 gal in the future, but for now a pair of fry will be fine in 5 gallons of space with lots of plants.

For those of you who don’t know, betta imbellis are a wild species of betta from Thailand. They are kind of hard to find in the states because most of them have to be imported or ordered from a specialty breeder, but I found a really good deal on a pair of fry. Betta imbellis (being more wild and less bred down) are much less aggressive then regular pet store bettas, and are often kept in pairs or even large groups (especially if they are siblings that grew up together)

I don’t have them yet, but when I get my tank set up how I want it, I plan on ordering a pair to go in one side of my divided 10 gal. I’m so excited!

I actually got the tank setup how I want, but then we got big snowstorm. Looks like ordering them will have to get postponed. I’m hoping I’ll be able to get them as soon as this bad weather goes away.

Yes, best not to attempt anything like that during severe weather, our temps have been very cold, single digits and teens in the daytime and below zero at night. Had some snow, just a few inches, not bad. Weather warming a little this week.

it’s been 20-32° lately over here. We got about 6-8” of snow, but it’s mostly melted now,
