Bulldog needs surgery

Is surgery common for bulldogs? I have heard that they have problems with hip displacia but I'm told my dog will need surgery. Is this common and is there anyone here that has gone through this before?

Bulldogs are known for lot of genetic flaws, but you can't not love em. Good Luck!!!!
