Hi, I'm 13 years old and want to get pet bird, however, my dad is in the military and we currently live overseas in germany, so I know I will have to rehome them in 2 years. Is this okay, and if so, are there any particular breeds that might struggle with being rehomed, and are there any breeds that would be okay to get with the understanding that it would need to be rehomed in a couple years? I just want what's best for the birds. Thank You!

I would only get a budgie if you can already have someone set up to take it when you move and know they will care for it well. I honestly don't think it's fair for you or the bird to get one for 2 years. They can live near 10+ years and are typically bought around 8 weeks old. They take months to tame/bond with properly. I would not get one if I were you. I do suggest you join a budgie forum I'm a member of. They can give you the very best answer to your bird questions and maybe help setup someone to take it too. It's called Talk Budgies. Please join. My name on there is BudgieBirdie, hope to see your post.

Okay thank you. This was very helpful, and I think I will wait until we move back to the USA to get a bird.

You're welcome. I think that's a wise choice. So many birds are rehomed and not cared for, I'm glad you'll be one of those owners that does get one when you're ready and care for it. :) birds are one of those pets that genuinely bond with their owners if the work is put in. They're worth waiting to get so you can keep it.
