Hello all,
My 3 year old parakeet, Benjamin, is acting very odd. He is gagging and looks like he is trying to vomit, and then he shakes his head and ruffles his feathers, and continues to gag. He doesn't seem to have any trouble breathing and he is able to hop from perch to perch in between the periods where he is gagging. At one point Benji stopped doing this and began preening himself, but he is unable to without shaking his head and fluffing up. He also is scratching his face and rubbing his beak on the perch. This morning I put a bit of crushed up cereal in the bird's treat holder, which he my other parakeet, Blueberry, enjoy. This is not the first time that they have eaten this cereal. Could a bit of the cereal be stuck in Benji's throat? He seems to be getting a little better as I write this, not so much gagging, but there is still the feather fluffing and head scratching.
Thanks!
