Winter Sores

Hey guys,

First time poster here, but i thought i'd give this a try. Every winter my black lab gets these dry patches on his skin where he loses his hair and eventually they become sores, either from him liking

them or them worsening. Does anybody know anything about this?

If it's happening in winter, it could just be dry skin. You can try giving your Lab a spoonful of coconut oil daily. They like the flavor, and it can help with dry skin problems, but you need to do this for several weeks at least to see results, then continue. I take it myself, and use it topically for dry skin.

One vet told us this can also be due to the type of heat used in your home. The worst apparently for dry skin is wood fires. I guess they dry out the air so much. As mentioned adding some oil can really help so long as it doesn't end up causing loose stool. Can be a bit tricky to find the correct amount!
